The Down East Alers, known as the D.E.A., is a home-brewing club located in Greenville, North Carolina. Our mission is to support and promote the hobby of home-brewed beer & mead; to support and promote the craft-brewing industry; to help teach new members the art & science of brewing; and to responsibly enjoy the fruits of our brewing efforts. We meet monthly, on the first Wednesday of each month, at Ham's Restaurant and Brewhouse in Greenville, NC at 7:00. Prospective members are always welcome to come join us. We also have numerous social functions throughout the year, such as Oyster Roasts, Big Brews, and other cookouts with themes such as Belgian Beer Bash or Mead Madness.....often with live music. The D.E.A. is part of the Carolinas Brewer of the Year program (CBOY), with member clubs in North Carolina and South Carolina participating in and hosting beer, mead, & cider competitions throughout the year. The goal of CBOY is also to responsibly promote the art & science of brewing and to improve brewer's skills through friendly competition. The D.E.A. is proud to have 2 Carolinas Brewers of the Year and a Carolinas Meadmaker of the Year as part of our club. Skill levels within the club vary from first-time extract brewers to former professional brewers. We also have avid beekeepers and orchardists in the club. We can offer a variety of assistance to those who wish to learn the art & science of brewing, mead-making, and beekeeping. |
